The Newark High School Choirs have a long standing tradition in the state of Ohio. They have qualified for OMEA state finals for 57 consecutive years. They have received over 100 superior ratings at state choir finals.
NHS choir alumni are currently singing on vocal scholarships all over the state of Ohio preparing for professional musical careers in voice, opera, and musical theater.
Newark Choirs have performed at OMEA state conferences in Cleveland and Columbus, as well as in competitions and festivals in Italy, the Czech Republic, Canada, and various locations throughout the United States.
The Newark choral program consists of the following ensembles: Concert Choir, Women’s Chorus, Women’s Chorale, as well as the Brotherhood of Newark comprised of the Men's Chorus, Men's Chorale and Concert Choir men. The choral program is also home to Modern Movement, Newark's premiere a cappella group. NHS choirs are directed by Russell Nutt.
